As we head into construction season, A&Z Engineering has expanded our team with several new hires across our field and design groups.
These additions strengthen our ability to support active projects throughout Northern Indiana, bringing a mix of hands-on construction experience, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to quality.
Strengthening Our Field & Design Teams
A significant part of our growth this year has been in construction inspection—adding experienced professionals who understand the realities of working in the field and delivering projects the right way. We’ve also been fortunate enough to snag a talented engineer to support our site development department!

Franck Rodriguez – Civil Engineer
Franck brings experience in site development with a focus on grading, stormwater management, and plan production. His work across multiple Indiana communities, combined with a detail-oriented approach, supports efficient and coordinated project delivery.

Teague Meadows Construction Inspector
Teague brings a strong background in heavy construction, including excavation, grading, and utility work. His hands-on experience working alongside crews gives him a practical perspective that supports effective inspection and coordination in the field. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors.

Allen Stevens Construction Inspector
Allen joins A&Z with over a decade of experience in construction inspection and project supervision, including extensive work with INDOT and local agencies. His background in managing roadway and bridge projects—and understanding agency expectations—adds immediate value to our inspection team.

Pete Krelski Construction Inspector With more than 25 years of experience in construction and underground utilities, Petre brings a deep understanding of field operations, safety, and quality control. Known for his attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively, he is a strong addition to our growing inspection team.
At A&Z, there’s no single path into this field. Some of our team members came up through construction, others through school, and many through a mix of both. With a few new faces joining us recently, we’ve gotten a lot of questions about what this work actually looks like day-to-day and how people get started—so we pulled together a few quick answers.
FAQs: Careers in Civil Engineering
What does a construction inspector actually do?
A construction inspector is out on the job site making sure the work matches the plans. That means checking materials, tracking progress, documenting what’s happening each day, and working directly with contractors and project teams to keep things moving the right way. Do you need a degree to get into this field?
Not always. Some people come in with a civil engineering degree, but a lot of inspectors start with hands-on construction experience—pipe crews, grading, utilities, things like that. Certifications and on-the-job experience go a long way in this industry.
What skills matter most?
Being able to read plans is a big one, but honestly, attention to detail and communication are just as important. You’re constantly working with different people on a job site, so being able to catch issues early and talk through them clearly matters.
What does a civil design engineer do?
They’re the ones putting the plans together before construction ever starts—laying out roads, drainage, utilities, and site features. It’s a mix of technical work and coordination to make sure everything actually works in the real world.
What kind of projects do civil engineers work on?
A little bit of everything: roads, bridges, sidewalks, site development, drainage systems. Most of the work is tied to infrastructure that people use every day, even if they don’t always think about it. See some of our work:Projects
Is this a good career path?
It is. There’s steady demand, a lot of variety in the work, and real opportunities to grow—whether you want to stay in the field, move into design, or take on more of a management role over time.
