Waterloo Safe Routes to School Phase II – Town of Waterloo, IN

The Waterloo Elementary School is the primary beneficiary of facility improvements. It is the only elementary school within the corporate limits of Waterloo. The proposed improvements included new 5-foot wide sidewalks along the north side of E. and W. Maple St, along the south side of W. Douglas St., and along both sides of South Washington St. between E. Maple St. and E. Douglas St. The improvements of all non-compliant curb ramps for appropriate crossings were constructed at 12 intersections and replaced with ADA compliant ramps. Approximately 2,230 linear feet of 4-foot wide sidewalk was removed and replaced with five-foot wide sidewalk. Another 835 linear feet of five-foot wide sidewalk will be constructed to close gaps and provide the continuity needed to provide a safe route to school. For the first time, A&Z utilized rubber sidewalks in the design to protect the environment.
