Coldwater Road is one of the major north-south corridors connecting Coliseum Boulevard (SR 930) and Interstate 69 on the north side of Fort Wayne. The project starts just north of Coliseum Boulevard and extends north about 5,100 feet to the intersection with Washington Center Road.
Project improvements included rehabilitation of the existing 10-inch plain concrete pavement by repairing joints, patching pavement, and partial pavement reconstruction. The existing pavement was milled off and resurfaced with HMA pavement. Composite Geofabric was placed over the existing longitudinal joints and transverse joints to prevent reflective cracking. Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) was used to evaluate the condition of the existing concrete pavement and subbase materials during pavement assessment.
Raised landscaping median was incorporated with the proposed roadway typical cross section to introduce greenspace and reduce impervious pavement. Other improvements included traffic signal modifications, sidewalk repairs, and ADA curb ramp improvements.
The project cost was $2.8 million.
The Coldwater Road Concrete Street Rehabilitation project designed and inspected by A&Z Engineering, LLC, won the 2019 American Public Works Association Indiana Chapter "Co-Public Works Project of the Year" award.
