A&Z Engineering, LLC was selected by the City of Fort Wayne as the prime design firm for this "signature" project as the entryway to the Fort Wayne Airport. The improvements consist of modifying the existing 2-way pavement into a more modern look with 11 foot driving lanes and a 16 foot flush median for left turning movement. The project includes widening and resurfacing the existing pavement, improving the drainage by installing curb and gutters, and an enclosed storm sewer system with concrete curb turnouts which outlet into a modified ditch. Also included is an 8 foot trail on the east side separated by 6 foot grass strip, decorative LED street lights, and modifications to the existing traffic signal to include pedestrian signal heads at the intersection with Airport Expressway and the new entryway to the airport. A&Z has added two local firms as partners on this project; DLZ, Inc. completed the topographic survey and right-of-way engineering (R/W) and Earth Source Inc. for the green aspects and the landscape design.
